FAQ

 

Who can enter?
The competition is open to anyone, anywhere in the world who is aged 14 or
over on the closing date.

How and when can I enter?
Entry to the competition is free. You enter using the online submission
system on this website. We regret that we CANNOT accept entries via email or
post. You can enter any time from now until the closing date in May 2008.
Entries received after that date will not be accepted.

What can I enter?
Images must be your own work and be unpublished (see technical information
below for further guidelines). You can enter all three categories once only.
Content should be appropriate for general public viewing.

All entries MUST be written in English. We regret that entries in any language other
than English cannot be accepted.

How will the judging work?
The judging panel is made up of professional photographers and
representatives from our official sponsors. After the closing date all
entries will go though the first round of judging and five entries from each
category will be shortlisted. Shortlisted entrants will be contacted in June
2008 and asked to supply high quality digital images to go forward to the
second round of judging which will take place in July 2008. First, second
and third place winners for each category will then be chosen.

What are the prizes?
First place in each category wins a cash prize as follows: Landscape (£500)
Decisive Moment (£500) Photo Essay - 6 images (£1,000). (The prize money
will include any base bank charges and transfer fees.) Second and third
place winners will be selected but there are no cash prizes for these.
Winning entries will be included on the Charnwood Arts Pixel & Grain
website: www.charnwoodarts.com/pixelandgrain An exhibition of winning
entries will also be displayed at the Pixel and Grain Gallery at
Loughborough Town Hall in September 2008.

The technical stuff:
All images must be original work. Copyright must belong to the person
submitting the entry. Only previously unpublished work will be accepted. (By
published we mean in a commercial or previous competition context. Work
stored in open access online archives and photographic community sites is
acceptable.)

Entries must not display copyright information or any other
identifiables such as image watermarks. Titles may be included in the
frame but not authors' names.

Only digital images submitted via our official website will be accepted.
Maximum of 800 pixels on the largest edge. We CANNOT accept
entries via email or post.

A minimal level of image post processing will be allowed in each category.
As a guideline this should be confined to a basic range of electronic
darkroom techniques such as use of levels, sharpening, contrast,
saturation/de-saturation and duotoning etc. The Judges will determine this
from their level of their experience.

The SHORT PHOTO ESSAY may be accompanied a piece of text of no more than 100
words. A single title is required for all six images. Words should be
entered on the notes section of the entry form.

By ticking the box on the entry form you are agreeing to abide by
these rules of the competition.

The Judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into
with regards to the results.
